New Orleans' HOUSE OF SHOCK Wins Grand Prize For 'Best Float'

The House of Shock Mardi Gras float that parades every year in Elks Krewe of Orleanians won the grand prize for "Best Float". This year's theme, "A New Era in Terror", featured a 13-foot creature on the front of the float whose head and jaw moved up and down. The float, which looked liked a moving stone castle, also had cryogenic effects on the front and sides, confetti cannons and air cannons on the sides of the float that shot compressed air at unsuspecting parade-goers, giving them a little taste of what they can expect from a visit to House of Shock. This marks the first time House of Shock has won the grand prize. In the past they have won for "Best Animation" and "Best Decorated Float".

The House of Shock is a haunted attraction started in 1993 by Philip Anselmo (PANTERA, DOWN),Ross Karpelman (DOWN keyboardist),Jay Gracianette and Steven Joseph (who toured with PANTERA in various road-crew capacities) as a fun alternative to the average Halloween party. Since then it has grown into a huge event spanning the entire month of October and is rated one of the top ten haunted attractions in the country.
